The Help

This last weekend my daughter and I went to see the much talked about movie The Help. I have heard so much about the book, but I hadn't had the chance to read it. A facebook friend said that she thought the movie was better than the book and recommended seeing the movie first. So, that is where we went Sunday afternoon.

Heartbroken, appalled, sad, guilty, inspired and angry are some of the emotions I felt while watching the movie. The courage some of the characters displayed was amazing and I kept wondering what I would have been like in that same place and time. I would hope that I would have stood up for what is right.

I haven't been able to forget one saying in the movie as stated by Aibileen:
You is smart.
You is kind.
You is important.
What simple words yet such an impact on a child's life.

I highly recommend this movie. I think everyone should see it. I have just ordered the book and I can't wait to get it. I will let you know what I think.

First day of 8th grade=First day of blog

I have tried a couple of times before in the last 4 years to start a blog. They ended up with 1 post and then I never posted again. I am hoping to change that and post regularly to this blog.
Why When Skies are Grape? I have a 13 year old daughter (Ren) who is amazing. When she was little, our song was "You are my Sunshine". When she would sing it she would say "when skies are grape" instead of "when skies are gray". I thought that was so cute and I've always remembered it and yes, that is still our song.

Today was her first day of 8th grade. Whew! I cannot believe it. I know every parent goes through these growing pains with their children to some degree. I seem to feel them right down to my very soul. She has always been so precious to me and I love her dearly. I want to enjoy these new milestones but sometimes I ache for what was. I have told her that when she goes to college, we will move right along with her. She doesn't seem to mind that although she said we would have to live at least an hour away. HA! Funny kid!

Well, here's to my first day on the blog and hopefully many more.
